Teaching Experiences:
I am an experienced accredited international teacher with more than eight years of teaching experience in South Korea and China, and three years teaching experience in the USA. I bring to the classroom a passion for learning in general and a love of language, writing, and modern young adult literature specifically. With 10 years of varied professional experiences, I also bring a wealth of knowledge from outside the classroom to my role as a teacher. I am currently teaching here at DEPU as the IBC1 IGCSE English teacher, IBC3 and IBC4 Listening and Speaking English teacher, AS1 English teacher, and A2/A2M English teacher as well as working as the head of the English department and serving as the vice homeroom teacher for A2/A2M.
Education Philosophy:
My philosophy on education has shifted throughout my experience as a teacher. One concept that has remained the same whether I am teaching in the states or overseas is that I am committed to educating the whole child. I have a vested interest in my students achieving success not just in my classroom but in life as well. I feel like every student deserves the opportunity to achieve success, even if that means giving up my own free time to help struggling students. I am always looking for ways to improve myself as a teacher because the biggest thing that I bring to the classroom as an educator is that I consider myself to be a lifelong learner and encourage my students to be the same. Just because we may master one skill, does not mean there is nothing else about it for us to learn. I want to instill in my students a desire to learn and grow into citizens that will make a difference in the world.
